The degree in English: Linguistic and Literary Studies offers the training required by professionals in the English language and Anglophone literatures and cultures. It provides a command of the English language and a broad perspective on English literature and the linguistic currents and literary science applied to this language.
The curriculum of the first two courses of this degree is common to the degrees of Spanish and Galician and Portuguese that are taught in the same Faculty of Philology of the A Coruña campus, so that the languages and their corresponding literatures form the core of the programs of those two courses. In the third and fourth, the study of English language and literature is deepened with subjects such as scientific-technical English, North American literature, culture and civilization of English-speaking countries or phonetics of the English language, as well as the choice of subjects such as Italian , Galician, French or Romance languages, among others. It is possible to opt for a double degree with the University of South Wales (United Kingdom) and obtain a second degree (Spanish or Galician-Portuguese) by taking an additional year within a simultaneity program.
Graduates in English are inserted in the labor market in areas such as the teaching of this language or Spanish for foreigners, sociocultural management, publishing and journalistic companies, translation, internet content, libraries or research and literary criticism.

The three degrees offered by the Faculty of Philology on the A Coruña campus can be combined with each other to obtain a double degree with one more year of study. One of the possible combinations is to study the degree in Spanish: Linguistic and Literary Studies with the degree in Galician and Portuguese: Linguistic and Literary Studies.
This simultaneity program, unique in the Galician university system, consists of 324 credits. As the first two courses are already common to the three degrees that are studied in this faculty (Galician-Portuguese, English and Spanish), it is in the remaining three years when the compulsory subjects of each of the degrees involved in the program are concentrated simultaneously. In addition, the selection between 40 optional subjects in 4th and 5th year allows customizing the final itinerary of each student.
The double degree expands and reinforces the work options of the students who complete this simultaneity program: teaching in the public and private spheres (academies, colleges, institutes, language schools, foreign university lecturers), linguistic and sociocultural advice, dynamization and standardization linguistics, translation, preparation or correction of texts, etc., in work environments of the media, publishing houses, institutions and offices and cultural management.
A Coruña
The simultaneity program of the degrees in English and Spanish, which are taken at the Faculty of Philology of the A Coruña campus, offers the possibility of obtaining both degrees adding one more year to complete the 324 credits of the program .
The three degrees taught at this center (in Spanish, English and Galician-Portuguese) have the first two courses in common. In the simultaneity program (to which third-grade students can join), the compulsory subjects for the 3rd and 4th grade in English and the degree in Spanish are divided into the three remaining courses to complete the double grade.
The professional knowledge of the Spanish and English languages and literatures with the double title notably reinforces the curriculum for the labor insertion of each degree separately, also enhanced by the practical knowledge of other languages (French, Italian, Portuguese). Graduates in English are inserted in areas such as the teaching of this language or Spanish for foreigners, sociocultural management, publishing and journalistic companies, translation, internet content, libraries or research or literary criticism. Likewise, the degree in Spanish allows access to employment such as teaching in the public and private spheres (academies, colleges, institutes, language schools, foreign university lecturers) or cultural management, linguistic and sociocultural advice, translation, elaboration or correction of text, etc., in the media, editorials, institutions and offices.
A Coruña
The simultaneity degree program in English and in Galician and Portuguese offers a solid background in the language, literature and culture of the Anglophone and Galician-Portuguese fields. In addition, it facilitates the acquisition of advanced knowledge of the Spanish language and literature and practical knowledge of other languages chosen by the students themselves (French, Italian). It consists of 324 credits distributed over five years and is taught at the Philology Faculty of the A Coruña campus.
In the first two courses, which are common to the three degrees taught at the Faculty of Philology, the Galician, English and Spanish languages and their corresponding literatures are studied, as well as subjects of classical culture, history or information technology. In the three remaining courses, students acquire the knowledge of the compulsory subjects of 3rd and 4th of each of the two degrees, deepening the knowledge of both linguistic and literary systems, as well as Portuguese.
The double degree reinforces the options for integrating graduates into the labor market, by adding the competences of both degrees to work in teaching, translation, sociocultural management, publishing companies, the media, linguistic normalization or cultural advice, among other areas.
