Professional environment

There are companies that are dedicated to the planning of tourist destinations at different levels, local, regional, national and international. Our graduates are prepared to carry out the different sections of the planning.

There is also a need for graduates who know how to manage tourist destinations who want to implement a new plan in areas where there was no tourism or implement a plan to make changes towards sustainable tourism in areas where tourism was already developed.

Our graduates are suitable to carry out this management.

It is necessary to convert resources and services into tourism products that are marketable by different means. Our graduates have knowledge to make these products as well as for their subsequent commercialization.

Planning for teaching

In accordance with Royal Decree 1393/2007, of 29 October, which establishes the organisation of official university education and Royal Decree 1125/2003, of 5 September, which establishes the European credit system and the grading system for official university degrees valid throughout the national territory, official university degrees will be measured in European ECTS credits.

The degree is taught over 18 months divided into three semesters. The first semester will be for taking common subjects. The second to take subjects of specific orientation. The third to carry out the internships and the Master's Degree Final Project.

The total number of credits of the degree will be 90 ECTS, which includes theoretical and practical training. When offering two specialisations or itineraries, students must choose: 30 common compulsory credits, 30 credits of specific orientation (research or professional), 12 credits of external internships and 18 credits of the Master's Degree Final Project.

Except for the Master's Degree Final Project and external internships, in the other subjects of the Master's Degree, each student's grade will be made through continuous evaluation and, if necessary, a final exam will be held.

DOUBLE MODALITY: FACE-TO-FACE AND ONLINE

THE FACE-TO-FACE MODALITY: This is the modality that we have been teaching since the Master's Degree in Tourism Management and Planning began in the 2006-2007 academic year and has given very good results to date. Classes are taught at the Faculty of Tourism from September (Monday to Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.).

THE DISTANCE MODALITY: The distance modality is a demand that we have had for several years, both by students who have studied the degree, and by students from other parts of Spain and abroad who wish to come and study at our university. With the distance modality, the skills set out in the degree are perfectly acquired. All training is carried out remotely, through the University's teletraining platform (Moodle), except for the subject of External Internships, which must be carried out in person at a company, institution or research centre related to tourism, which will always be sought in the student's community of residence. In any case, the recognition of credits taken by accreditation of work or professional experience is allowed. The evaluation of the different subjects is carried out through various exercises, assignments, activities...

External references

The proposal for the design of this Master's Degree is based on three references external to our University but in which we actively participate:

a) In the first place, it is necessary to highlight the task carried out by several Spanish universities with tourism studies that, after different meetings, agreed on the basic structure of postgraduate studies in tourism. This design was based on the needs of the sector and the foreseeable higher training needs in tourism. The agreement reached by these universities was to establish common competencies that in the future will allow the exchange of students between at least 14 Spanish universities.

b) Secondly, we take as a reference the work carried out by the Interuniversity Commission of Galicia in which representatives of the three Galician universities participated. In the different meetings, a consensus was reached on the proposed specialties that are adapted to the demands and characteristics of each of the three universities. This is the reason why our university is responsible for the Master's degree in "Planning and Management of Destinations and Tourism Products".

c) At the international level, there are several universities in different parts of Europe and Latin America that teach courses related to the planning and management of destinations and also those that are dedicated to the topics of innovation and new tourism products. This led us in the four years that we have been teaching the studies to come into contact and sign agreements with universities from different countries such as Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, USA, etc. that share our same interest and with which there is an exchange of students and teachers.

Query procedures used

To develop the curriculum at our University, a commission was formed in which specialists from the different areas related to tourism participated. Tourism is an activity that needs to be analyzed from different areas and so the areas of Sociology, Economics, Law, Geography, Medicine, Computer Science, etc. participated.

This commission worked with the collaboration of different specialists, but always thinking about the national reference of the other universities that participate in the network so that a program whose competences were similar throughout Spain could be developed. In this way, a consensus was reached on the subjects to be taught to cover the competences agreed at the national level.

Student mobility

UDC holds student mobility agreements with universities and other third-level institutions across four continents. Students are offered several opportunities each year to apply to study abroad in one of these centres (for a single term or for a whole year), with the guarantee that all credits obtained will be duly recognised in their academic record upon their return.

For each round of applications, the University publishes the list of exchange options available to students and, where relevant, the specific conditions associated with each. Students may also apply to the University for funding for international work experience placements and internships.

Work experience placements are accredited in the student's academic record and the European diploma supplement. Students are free to decide in which host company or academic institution within the EHEA they wish to carry out their placement. To assist them in their search, the University has created an online noticeboard with jobs postings and other news.

Work-study placements in A Coruña are arranged by the International Relations Office (ORI) of the UDC in collaboration with the international relations coordinators in the student’s home university. The general entry criteria, rights and obligations of students, and admission and acceptance procedures for the programme, are regulated by the UDC Mobility Policy.
