Students of Tourism acquire multi and trans disciplinary skills and competences, as in addition to providing an in-depth insight into the principles and dimensions of Tourism, this degree course also includes modules related to the management of tourism companies, services and destinations, as well as travel and transport, the hospitality industry, communication skills and new technologies, as well as the study of the built and environmental heritage, tourism resources and languages. A key aspect of this degree is the combination of theoretical and practical training, effectively combining knowledge with know-how – the key for all professionals. Students on this course must be aware that the tourism industry is based on a vocation for service and the ability of its professionals to work in multicultural environments, demonstrating outstanding communication and interaction skills. They should have an interest in language learning, as well as an open and communicative nature, people and organisational skills, a good memory and interest in culture, as well as an enterprising and entrepreneurial spirit and initiative.
The tourism sector offers career opportunities in a wide variety of fields, both in the private and public sectors.
In the private sphere, professional opportunities in the hotel and accommodation industry, the organization of congresses, events and tourist activities, as well as in tour operators and travel agencies stand out. There are also opportunities in transport companies, in the field of marketing, promotion and tourism communication, and in the management and development of tourism products and destinations.
For their part, in the public sector, graduates can perform functions in official tourism bodies at the local, regional, national and international levels, participating in the planning, management and promotion of destinations, as well as in the design and implementation of tourism policies. They can also work in tourist information offices and in entities linked to the management of cultural and natural heritage.
In addition, the growth of new tourism modalities – such as rural tourism, ecotourism or adventure tourism – and the incorporation of technological innovations expand the range of professional profiles, demanding graduates capable of adapting to changing environments and designing sustainable and competitive proposals.
The skills acquired throughout the degree are inserted in a broad and diversified professional environment, in which it is essential to understand the dynamic nature of tourism and its economic, social and political-administrative dimension.
The development of communication skills, the mastery of several languages and the ability to interact in multicultural contexts allow students to integrate into different professional fields, such as accommodation, catering, destination management, tourism planning or heritage management.
Likewise, training in analysis of tourism potentials, impact evaluation and design of sustainable strategies enables decision-making in the planning and management of tourism resources, both at the business and institutional levels. These skills are especially relevant in a context in which tourism incorporates new trends, such as ecotourism, rural tourism or adventure tourism, as well as the integration of new technologies.

UDC holds student mobility agreements with universities and other third-level institutions across four continents. Students are offered several opportunities each year to apply to study abroad in one of these centres (for a single term or for a whole year), with the guarantee that all credits obtained will be duly recognised in their academic record upon their return.
For each round of applications, the University publishes the list of exchange options available to students and, where relevant, the specific conditions associated with each. Students may also apply to the University for funding for international work experience placements and internships.
Work experience placements are accredited in the student's academic record and the European diploma supplement. Students are free to decide in which host company or academic institution within the EHEA they wish to carry out their placement. To assist them in their search, the University has created an online noticeboard with jobs postings and other news.
Work-study placements in A Coruña are arranged by the International Relations Office (ORI) of the UDC in collaboration with the international relations coordinators in the student’s home university. The general entry criteria, rights and obligations of students, and admission and acceptance procedures for the programme, are regulated by the UDC Mobility Policy.
