Access

Students who meet some of the criteria listed in Article 4 of the UDC PhD Policies and Regulations will be able to access to UDC PhD programmes.

Applications

Candidates matching one of the general entry requirements for PhD students will be assessed in accordance with the specific criteria and merits for each programme. Information relating to application procedures and requirements are included in the programme structure for each course.

The decision to offer a student a place on a UDC PhD programme is the result of an application-specific evaluation process, and does not affect the academic or professional status of the candidate’s existing qualifications.

Recommended profile of admission

To access this doctoral programme it will be necessary:
1) To have completed a first degree of specialization in the field of literary, linguistic or
cultural studies in English language or equivalent of at least 240 credits, as well as a master's degree of at least 60 credits.
2) To be in possession of the Diploma of Advanced Studies (DEA) or Research Proficiency in the field of literary, linguistic or cultural studies in the English language.
3) Applicants who accredit C1 level linguistic competence in oral and written English before the Academic Committee, by means of an official certification or, where appropriate, through an interview or test, which is considered sufficient to carry out research tasks and who are in possession of the Diploma of Advanced Studies (DEA), will also have access. o Research Proficiency in the areas of Philology, Translation and Interpreting, Humanities, Communication, Social Sciences and Sociology, Political Science and Administration, Master in Early Childhood Education, Master in Primary Education, Social Education and Pedagogy, History and Philosophy.
4) Those students who have completed a bachelor's degree or a bachelor's degree, and in turn have completed the Master's Degree in Teacher Training for Secondary Education, Baccalaureate and Language Schools (specialising in languages and literatures) will be able to access the doctoral programme having to take compulsory complementary research training that will consist of 15 ECTS credits of the Master's degree in English Studies or equivalent.
5) For students who have completed other master's degrees and postgraduate courses related to the specialty, in the fields of educational sciences, gender and feminist studies, philology, classical studies, translation, linguistics, history, philosophy and humanities, with a minimum of 60 credits, the Academic Committee will study each application in particular, determining the complementary research training to be taken. The bridging courses will not exceed 15 ECTS and will be for the Master's Degree in English Studies or equivalent.
Program-Specific Access Requirements
Given the characteristics and scientific level of the doctoral programme, the candidate must have accredited a minimum level of knowledge of (language) level C1 of oral and written English in accordance with the provisions of the Council of Europe in the Common European Framework of Reference for Language Knowledge. This requirement is established not only because it is the common language of scientific communication at an international level at present in the field of knowledge of the thesis of the University of Barcelona, but also because part of the courses, both specific and transversal training, as well as various activities of the program, can be carried out in this language. The level of (language) will be accredited with the corresponding official certification of those included in the list of accreditations usually recognised for the different levels of the Common European Framework (for example, https://www.usc.gal/es/servizos/clm/acreditacion/index.html).

Specific access requirements of the CAPD

These criteria will allow the selection of admitted candidates if there are more applications than places.
The selection of students for admission to the programme will be made based on the following criteria:
• The availability of endorsement/commitment to the supervision of the thesis for a
member of the teaching staff.
• Academic record determined by the grades obtained in the bachelor's and master's degree (or DEA or
research sufficiency).
• Previous research experience and its results: In this section, publications, conference communications and other scientific contributions and their suitability to the lines of research of the doctoral programme will be assessed. Candidates must submit supporting documentation.
• Professional experience: In this section, professional experience related to the lines of research of the doctoral programme will be valued. Candidates must submit documentation
Supporting documents (certification of working life, copy of contracts, scholarships, etc.)
• Other accredited aspects in the candidate's CV: In this section, research stays, courses taken and courses taught related to the lines of research of the
program, as well as knowledge of languages other than mother tongue and English, etc. The
Candidates must submit supporting documentation.
• Personal interview (according to the criteria of the CAPDs): In this section, motivation and aptitude will be assessed,
written and oral communication skills, etc.
The same criteria will be applied to admit all candidates regardless of whether their dedication is full-time or part-time.

Deadlines

The application for admission (or registration renewal) and enrollment in PhD studies will be carried out according to the terms approved by the Governing Council of the UDC.
