The Doctoral Programme in Environmental and Fundamental Chemistry is an official university degree whose general objective is to train doctors in Chemistry with orientations both towards the field of the environment and towards the synthesis and characterisation of new compounds that are capable of addressing and solving the problems demanded by industry, administration and society in general. promoting research, development and scientific-technological innovation both at a fundamental and applied level.
It is an interdepartmental doctoral programme in which doctors from the following areas of knowledge participate: Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Physics.
The Doctoral Programme is integrated into the International Doctoral School (EIDUDC http://www.udc.es/eid).

Chemistry represents one of the sectors with the greatest social and industrial development in recent years, and is one of the fields in which the European Union maintains a level comparable to the United States and Japan, both in the academic, scientific and industrial fields. More specifically, Chemistry plays a prominent role in the protection of health and the environment, in the development of new materials and processes that improve the quality of life and socio-economic development, becoming one of the pillars of a country's competitive capacity.
In this line, this doctoral programme presents a current vision of this discipline as a broad science that deals with the macroscopic and microscopic properties of compounds and materials of all kinds: inorganic, organic and biological, as well as on chemical aspects of change and reactivity. It also addresses the study of analysis methodologies, their development and includes an important strategic nature related to the specialization in environment and sustainability.
