The Interuniversity Doctoral Program in Neurosciences, coordinated by the Department of Neurosciences of the University of the Basque Country, brings together a teaching staff made up of internationally renowned professors in research and teaching, as well as highly motivated students in a scientific environment that shares a firm commitment to understanding the function and dysfunction of the nervous system.
The program offers specialized training in neuroscience to students from diverse backgrounds and covers multiple fields of research, from cellular and molecular neuroscience to clinical, cognitive and behavioral neuroscience, depending on the different lines of research offered at each university. The ultimate goal is to train students to lead research in neuroscience, health sciences or education. Students have the opportunity to work with any member of the teaching staff who is linked to the program and at the university in which they are located: University of the Basque Country, Pablo de Olavide University, Universidade da Coruña, University of Castilla-La Mancha, Rovira University i Virgili.

The Doctoral Program that is intended to be put into operation is based on this idea and has as one of its main objectives to train researchers who from the beginning of their careers have this vision of Neuroscience as an integrating discipline in which collaboration with other groups, the interdisciplinary vision, the approach to problems from different scientific points of view is the starting point for the design of experiments. It is therefore important that the student visits other centers or laboratories during the training process that allow them to become familiar with the different instrumental techniques, forge their own network of contacts, as well as assimilate the relationships that are established between the laboratory and the clinic. In this sense, the Programme offers enormous opportunities due to the variety and quality of the research groups that participate in it and the scheme of international contacts that they have. With these objectives, the academic efforts of 5 Universities have been joined to offer a Doctoral Programme that brings together sufficient critical mass of neuroscientists to develop them.
Finally, it should be mentioned that research in Neurosciences within Spanish biomedical research is very relevant in quality and size and, despite being distributed by the different universities, some have stood out as interdisciplinary nuclei in the area. Among these, are the Universities participating in this doctoral proposal. All of them have a long tradition in specialized training in Neurosciences and contain important research groups with international projection, with lines of research representative of all fields of Neuroscience. For all these reasons, the scientific interest of the proposal is based above all on the coverage of almost all the areas of specialization in a cross-sectional program design, which is essential for the training of new truly competitive scientists in the field of Neuroscience.
