2026/2027

Introduction

The PhD programme in Computer Science is an official university degree that addresses research training in advanced computing. Framed in the ICT sector of Information and Communication Technologies, it has an important component of scientific focus in which the generation of new knowledge is prioritized, compared to other postgraduate degrees in the ICT area with a professionalizing approach more typical of engineering, where the innovative application of existing knowledge is enhanced, above all. The program also encourages entrepreneurship. Its objective is to train in research methodology skills, the development of a quality research work and to promote the creation and interpretation of new knowledge, through the preparation of an original research work that constitutes the student's final doctoral thesis.

Why study

The PhD is part of one of the generic R+D+i sectors typically considered crucial in the technological development of a country: the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector. The program is offered by the Department of Computing, which is a reference in its field, being the oldest and largest among the university departments related to Computer Science in Galicia. It is also one of the main R+D+i assets of the UDC, with a high number of applied and fundamental research projects, together with agreements and contracts with other public organizations and private companies and active participation in the generation of spin-off companies in the technology sector. The Department of Computer Science has extensive experience in the training of researchers, with a doctoral program that has been generating new doctors continuously since 1992.
