Students of Tourism acquire multi and trans disciplinary skills and competences, as in addition to providing an in-depth insight into the principles and dimensions of Tourism, this degree course also includes modules related to the management of tourism companies, services and destinations, as well as travel and transport, the hospitality industry, communication skills and new technologies, as well as the study of the built and environmental heritage, tourism resources and languages. A key aspect of this degree is the combination of theoretical and practical training, effectively combining knowledge with know-how – the key for all professionals. Students on this course must be aware that the tourism industry is based on a vocation for service and the ability of its professionals to work in multicultural environments, demonstrating outstanding communication and interaction skills. They should have an interest in language learning, as well as an open and communicative nature, people and organisational skills, a good memory and interest in culture, as well as an enterprising and entrepreneurial spirit and initiative.
Instrumental competences: students must acquire the capacity to analyse, synthesize, organize and plan. They must possess both written and oral communication skills in their own and foreign languages and acquire IT skills and be capable of resolving problems and taking decisions.
Personal and systematic competences: the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and multicultural team, acquire interpersonal skills and critical reasoning and commitment, adapting to new situations and displaying leadership, initiative and creativity.
Students require an understanding of the principles of the constantly evolving tourism sector in order to analyse its political, administrative and economic scope. They must acquire social and communication skills as well as the ability to work in various languages in multicultural environments, applying various business procedures (accommodation, hospitality, destination management, heritage management, etc.) both in the public and private sector.
They must be capable of assessing tourism potential, analyse the impact generated by the industry, detect planning requirements and draw up commercial policies and strategies that enable them to administer the necessary human and material resources and territories based on the principle of sustainability and plan tourism in varying social and cultural environments.
Capacity for analysis and synthesis; oral and written communication; problem solving. Application of critical reasoning and a sense of ethics. Students must also develop autonomous learning skills and be able to adapt to new situations.
Tourism is Spain’s biggest employer. In recent years there has been a growing demand for new tourism services such as those related to new destinations, new technologies and rural, eco-friendly and adventure tourism. Tourism graduates are capable of holding management positions in both the private and public sectors. They may also opt to continue their studies and embark on research through Master and Doctorate programmes.
The tourism sector offers graduates a vast range of job opportunities in multiple areas, including the hotel and hospitality industries, MICE, tour operators and travel agencies, carriers, marketing, promotion and communication companies, tourism product and destination management, tourism information, as well as official tourism organisations on a local, regional, national and international scale.

UDC holds student mobility agreements with universities and other third-level institutions across four continents. Students are offered several opportunities each year to apply to study abroad in one of these centres (for a single term or for a whole year), with the guarantee that all credits obtained will be duly recognised in their academic record upon their return.
For each round of applications, the University publishes the list of exchange options available to students and, where relevant, the specific conditions associated with each. Students may also apply to the University for funding for international work experience placements and internships.
Work experience placements are accredited in the student's academic record and the European diploma supplement. Students are free to decide in which host company or academic institution within the EHEA they wish to carry out their placement. To assist them in their search, the University has created an online noticeboard with jobs postings and other news.
Work-study placements in A Coruña are arranged by the International Relations Office (ORI) of the UDC in collaboration with the international relations coordinators in the student’s home university. The general entry criteria, rights and obligations of students, and admission and acceptance procedures for the programme, are regulated by the UDC Mobility Policy.
