6 places offered in academic year 2025/2026

Recommended profile of admission

The entry profile to this doctoral programme is aimed at those who wish to carry out their doctoral thesis in the field of linguistics or the Galician, Portuguese or Spanish languages, as well as Spanish sign language (LSE) or, eventually, in the field of some other language.
The appropriate training to apply for this doctoral programme is located, in the first place, in bachelor's and master's degree itineraries in Linguistics or those that integrate the in-depth study of any of these languages: Spanish, Galician or Portuguese, as in the traditional degrees of Spanish Philology, Galician Philology, Portuguese Philology, either in Spanish or foreign degrees provided that the access requirements are met. Secondly, other itineraries related to languages and linguistics may be taken into account, from disciplines such as Translation and Interpreting, Education, Psychology, Communication or Language Technologies. In the case of these mixed profiles, admission will be conditional on taking 6 ECTS in complementary training in a Master's Degree in Linguistics, preferably in the Interuniversity Master's Degree in Applied Linguistics (MILA), whose website can be visited at the following link: https://mila.uvigo.gal/gl/
For students coming from countries or regions with linguistic fields other than Spanish and Portuguese, a minimum proficiency in Spanish, Galician or Portuguese equivalent to a B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is required.
It is recommended that candidates have at least a B1 CEFR level in a language other than those mentioned in the previous section, especially English, or another Romance language (French, Italian, etc.). If they do not achieve it at the time of the application for admission, they can accredit it during the first year of doctoral studies.
It will also be necessary to submit, in writing, a statement of intent on a possible project or thesis topic, the line of research in which they would like to work or the motivation(s) to specifically develop that research work.
