Why study

This Program tries to respond to the existing need in today's society to approach education from the perspective of equity and innovation, justifying its interest and need in the following evidence:

-The need to give continuity and offer ways of research specialization to the studies offered in the current organization of the university system in Education and in particular: a) the studies of Teacher Training of Early Childhood and Primary Education who, as expected, have accessed the second and third cycle studies; b) teacher training studies in Compulsory Secondary, Baccalaureate, Vocational Training and Language Teaching, c) other master's degrees of educational specialization already existing in the participating universities and in many others at a national and international level. In this way, this doctorate is called to expand the specialization in research at these educational levels, thus adapting the training offer with this program
to the circumstances and needs of the Faculties and Studies of Education.

- The realization of the need to promote research that addresses the problems of social and educational inequality present in our society and that are taking on new forms as a result of the social transformations of the country and the effects of a globalized economy and an increasingly fragmented society. The training of researchers prepared to detect, analyze, investigate and promote innovative educational processes committed to equity, social justice and inclusion is a challenge of great complexity that constitutes the core of this program. It assumes the training of educational researchers as a tool of vital importance to promote more equitable educational systems and recognizes the indispensable role of critical educational research for educational and social transformation. Therefore, it is especially relevant to highlight that the Interuniversity Doctoral Programme in Equity and Innovation in Education aims to expand the frontiers of educational knowledge by posing equity as a challenge from which to achieve improvement and quality in education, so that the Equity-Innovation binomial constitutes the main hallmark of this programme that will define a particular way of understanding educational research shared by participating universities.

- The training of researchers is also a key element of a knowledge-based society. To achieve this objective, it is necessary to substantially increase the number of people with specific competences for the development of relevant research processes aimed at educational improvement. This doctoral programme will contribute to increasing the presence in educational and social institutions of a greater number of people with educational competence in research. A research that aims to expand the frontiers of educational knowledge, committed to the transfer of knowledge, capable of opening new ways and alternative ways of thinking and reconceptualizing education and also of transforming and improving it.

-This proposal formalizes, reinforces and enhances the existing academic and research connections and exchanges between the five Universities that have been maintaining not only geographical links (Universities in the northwest of the country), but also and above all with interests and lines of research coinciding in the commitment of research to equity and innovation in education.
